What is MountainMoney?
Well, generally speaking, toilet paper. However, MountainMoney is anything you’d barter or trade in circumstances where paper money is of little or no utility; any supplies, food storage, equipment, gear, preps or skills with more utility than paper money in any given circumstance.
We created MountainMoney to offer outdoor, emergency and survival gear, as well as a news blog for those of us who desire a degree of self-sufficiency. Our goal is to offer these supplies as inexpensively as we are able in an effort to equip and prepare as many as have a desire to protect themselves, their families and friends.
MountainMoney Mantras:
You can’t save anyone, if you can’t save yourself.
Help is not necessarily just around the corner.
Paper money does not increase in value.
A pile of cash can’t clean a wound, fill a belly, protect you from the elements or carry your supplies.
The MountainMoney Story
About 15 years ago I was surveying through the Idaho National Forest, in central Idaho. Our crew was a long way from civilization, at least a six-hour, one way drive; or a Life Flight from our base camp. A buddy and I had a little discussion about MountainMoney, what it was and what it meant. At the time, I figured everyone knew MountainMoney was a reference to toilet paper, but apparently it wasn’t. After giving a brief explanation, we had a good laugh about it and continued our hike through the mountains. Later in the day the topic came up again but this time in reference to a chainsaw malfunction thwarting of our progress clearing the Forest Service boundary. We realized that without the chainsaw our crew would be dead in the water and would have to call it a day. So, standing in the middle of nowhere, on the side of a heavily forested mountain, in the heat, bugs and with daylight burning, we realized that no amount of money could help us in that moment. We needed a good chainsaw when none was available. We then realized that MountainMoney was synonymous with anything necessary for outdoor and emergency survival. There are items, equipment and preps that can help, even save a person or family when circumstances beyond our control cause money to loses its value. A pile of cash can’t clean a wound, fill a belly, protect you from the elements or carry your supplies; MountainMoney is the gear that can do these things.
